After building houses for many years, Chris & Peggy Rutten decided to take on the other side of the construction world – a lumberyard. Together, they’ve built a team of experts that can help bring your building dreams to life.
Chris’s construction business, Guck-Rutten Construction, was one of the first pioneers to start the speculative building in the Westwind and East Park neighborhoods of Perham. With numerous houses and years under his belt, he came upon a good opportunity to continue working in the building industry with a different approach.
The leap of faith began with purchasing the Homestead Building Supplies location in New York Mills in April of 2011. The original building was landlocked without adequate delivery or showroom space, so we purchased the inventory and moved into a temporary location. We had high hopes that we would be expanding and need more space down the road.
While we were designing and building the new Lumber Depot building, Chris’s experience as a contractor shaped his vision for how he thought the facility should flow and operate. Customer service and experience were major components in all decisions that were made.
We are proud to say that Lumber Depot has now expanded to include our storefront with showroom and retail space, a number of warehouses, storage condos, and seven employees. We like to think that this is just the beginning, but only time will tell.
